The iconic Black Sabbath frontman died on July 22 at the age of 76, and he was laid to rest on July 30 after a heartfelt funeral service in Birmingham, his hometown, which was attended by family and friends. With the imminent release of his memoir, "Last Rites," which Jack completed just two days before his father's death, he took the opportunity to share insights on how the family is coping in the wake of this tragedy.
During a recent segment on Good Morning America, Jack discussed the overwhelming support his family has received, stating, "None of us anticipated this kind of response, this flood of love from everyone." This outpouring of affection marks a poignant moment for the family, which includes Sharon and Jack's siblings Kelly, Aimée, Jessica, Louis, and Elliot.
When asked about Sharon's emotional state following the loss of her husband of over four decades, Jack honestl said, "Well, if people ask me about her, my answer is, ‘She's okay, but she's not okay.’" He went on to affirm that she deeply appreciates the love and support from fans, saying, "Oh my god, yes. I know she feels the love."
Jack reflected on the universal fears children have regarding the eventual loss of their parents, noting, "Every child has that thought at some point, pondering what life will be like when their parents are gone. It’s just a part of being human. We just never anticipated it to carry such weight, you know?"
He also delves into the themes of his father’s memoir, where Ozzy candidly wrote, "If I had been clean and sober, I wouldn't be Ozzy. If I had engaged in normal, reasonable behavior, I wouldn't be the legendary figure I am." Jack acknowledges there's a kernel of truth in that statement. However, he emphasizes an essential point, saying, "Here's where it gets intriguing: at the end of his life, he was clean and sober and still very much Ozzy."
In terms of the circumstances surrounding Ozzy's passing, it was reported in early August that a heart attack was the official cause of death. His daughter Aimée submitted a death certificate that identified cardiac arrest and coronary artery disease as contributing factors, but it also referenced his ongoing battle with Parkinson's disease. The official document noted that he died due to a combination of a "cardiac arrest outside of a hospital, acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease, and complications from Parkinson's disease with autonomic dysfunction."
Interestingly, reports indicate that on the day of his death, an air ambulance was dispatched to Ozzy's residence in Chalfont St. Giles, Buckinghamshire. A representative from Thames Valley Air Ambulance confirmed they were called to provide critical care on July 22, although details remain sparse.
After arriving at Ozzy's home, the ambulance took him to Harefield Hospital, a well-known medical facility in the vicinity, where it reportedly stayed for about an hour before departing. This tragic event came just after his farewell performance with the original Black Sabbath lineup, marking an emotional reunion twenty years in the making.
